Most small businesses don’t come to us at the beginning. They come to us after they’ve tried a bit of everything.
A few blog posts here. Some keywords there. Maybe an agency that promised a lot and delivered very little. Plenty of activity, but no real sense of direction.
The problem usually isn’t effort. It’s clarity.
What actually matters? What can safely be ignored? And what should you be doing next to make real progress?
That’s where we start.
At KickstartSEO, we don’t add more noise.
We help you understand what’s going on, what needs to change, and how to move forward with a plan that makes sense.
Why KickstartSEO Exists
Michael Nagles started KickstartSEO with a simple idea: most small businesses do not need more SEO activity. They need better judgement.
For too long, SEO has been sold as a mix of mystery, jargon, recycled advice, and busywork dressed up as strategy. Some businesses are still stuck in old habits. Others are being pushed towards the latest wave of irrational exuberance, with promises of quick wins, instant visibility, and neat little formulas for getting found everywhere overnight.
We do not buy into either.
Michael is our Founder and SEO Strategist. He has worked in digital marketing for 30 years and was building websites before Google existed. That kind of experience does not make anyone infallible, but it does teach you to spot patterns, ignore noise, and keep your feet on the ground while the industry gets carried away with itself.
That matters now more than ever.
Search is evolving quickly. AI is changing the landscape. New ideas are arriving fast, and not all of them are wrong. But not every new idea deserves to become a strategy.
We still believe in sound SEO fundamentals. We still use keyword strategy. We still care what people are searching for.
What is changing is how those signals are interpreted, how content is understood, and how sensible businesses need to think about visibility in a world shaped by both search engines and AI systems.
That is why KickstartSEO exists.
We help small businesses cut through the noise, understand what matters, and move forward with a plan that makes sense today without losing sight of where search is heading next.
How We Work
We do not chase squirrels.
That does not mean we ignore what is happening in the industry. We stay close to it. We read, test, and pay attention. But we are not interested in running after every bright, shiny idea that appears this week and gets replaced by the next one five minutes later.

What works now is not panic, and it is not blind loyalty to old SEO habits either. It is a sensible strategy, clear priorities, and the ability to adapt without losing your head.
That is how we work.
We still use keyword strategy. We still care what people are searching for, how often they search, and where the opportunities are. Good SEO has not stopped mattering.
But keywords on their own are not the strategy. What matters now is context as well as language, meaning as well as matching, and understanding why content matters rather than just stuffing pages with the right words.
This is where Norman earns his keep.
Norman is our AI-powered SEO strategist. He supports analysis, prioritisation, content support, monitoring, and approved implementation work as part of a human-led service model. He helps us process information faster, spot patterns more clearly, and keep useful work moving in the background.
But we do not pretend AI should be left to run the whole show on its own. We know that AI works best when it is powered by a human.
That means Norman strengthens the work, but human judgement still leads it. Michael sets the direction. The team keeps things moving. Norman helps us cut through noise, support better decisions, and turn approved strategy into useful action.
That strikes us as a better plan than either pretending AI does not matter or treating it like a magic wand in the hands of people who still do not know what good SEO looks like.
The Team Behind The Work
KickstartSEO is a small team by design.
We are not trying to build a bloated agency full of account managers, vague job titles, and people being copied into emails for appearances' sake. We want the right people in the right roles, doing useful work that helps clients move forward.
That also means we do not believe in tuning clients out or hiding behind “expert” status. You know your business. We know SEO. The best results come when those two things work together.
And when clients hire us to manage the SEO, we manage it properly. That is what fully managed is supposed to mean.

Michael Nagles | Founder and SEO Strategist
Michael leads strategy, direction, and accountability across KickstartSEO.
With 30 years in digital marketing and experience that goes back to the early days of the web, he brings the judgement to know what matters, what to ignore, and where a business should focus next.
He is direct, practical, and not especially interested in dressing nonsense up as strategy.
Clients value Michael because he knows what he is talking about, tells the truth when it needs telling, and keeps the work moving in the right direction.

Norman Schwartzbot | AI-powered SEO Strategist
Norman is our AI-powered SEO strategist and one of the biggest reasons KickstartSEO works the way it does.
He supports analysis, prioritisation, content support, monitoring, and approved implementation work behind the scenes. He helps us process information faster, spot patterns more clearly, and keep useful work moving without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Norman is not human, and we do not pretend otherwise. But he is a serious part of how we deliver the work. He gives the team strategic horsepower that most small agencies simply do not have, while human judgement stays firmly in charge.

Teri Price | SEO Accounts Manager
Teri keeps things organised, keeps reporting and direct client support on track, and helps clients who are new to SEO find their feet without feeling lost.
We did not want to fill this role with old SEO baggage and stale agency habits. We wanted someone sharp, client-focused, willing to question assumptions, and able to grow with the business. Teri is that person.
She helps make sure good ideas turn into well-managed work, and that clients get the support they need without having to chase us for it.

Dee Atkins | Marketing Coordinator
Dee helps keep distractions off Michael’s and Teri’s desks so they can stay focused on strategy, delivery, and client support.
She handles the marketing admin and communication work that keeps the wider business moving, including newsletters, community management, and messaging. That matters because it protects the time and headspace Michael and Teri need to do the work clients are actually paying for.
In simple terms, Dee helps make sure the right people are spending their time on the right things.
Why This Works Better For Clients
A lot of SEO services create more confusion than clarity.
Too many businesses end up stuck between old habits, new hype, vague promises, and a service model that somehow still leaves them doing half the work themselves. That is not our idea of support.
We think this works better for clients for a few simple reasons.
Clear Roles, Less Confusion
You know who is doing what here.
Michael leads strategy. Norman strengthens the work with always-on analysis and support. Teri keeps delivery and client support on track. Dee keeps the wider business moving so the team can stay focused.
That means less confusion, fewer dropped balls, and no mystery about who is responsible for what.
Different Programmes, Same Standards
Not every client wants or needs the same level of involvement.
Some want us to take the lead and keep SEO off their desk. Others want more visibility, more support, and more hands-on involvement as they build confidence.
That is one reason we have different programmes.
The level of support changes, but the clarity, structure, and standards do not.
Fully Managed Means Fully Managed
When clients hire us to manage the SEO, we manage the SEO.
We ask questions when your business knowledge matters. We ask you to review content where accuracy matters. But we do not hand the work back to you with a smile and call that fully managed.
If you have hired us to lead the strategy and execution, that is exactly what we do.
Better Judgement In A Changing Search Environment
Search is changing quickly, and there is no shortage of people selling panic, shortcuts, and “must-do” lists dressed up as insight.
We take a more sensible view. We still believe in sound SEO fundamentals. We still use keyword strategy. But we also understand that visibility now depends on more than keywords alone.
It depends on context, meaning, credibility, and staying adaptable without losing your head every time the industry finds a new buzzword to cling to.
Education Without The Waffle
We want clients to understand what is happening and why. That matters.
Some clients like to stay close to the detail. Others prefer to leave the heavy lifting to us. Either way, we do not believe in keeping people in the dark.
Good clients do not need to become SEO experts, but they should leave us with a clearer, more modern understanding of what good SEO actually looks like.
That matters to us, even if they eventually move on.
What Clients Can Expect
Clients should expect clarity, honesty, and straight answers.
That means we will tell you what matters, what does not, and what needs attention now. It also means we will tell you when something is not worth worrying about, even if panic would be easier to sell.
You should expect us to listen.
We are not interested in tuning clients out just because we know SEO. You know your business. We know search. The best results usually come when those two things work together.
We will ask questions when your insight matters, and we will expect business-specific content to be checked before it goes live. That is not us passing the work back. That is us making sure what we publish is accurate and reflects your business properly.
You should also expect us to take ownership of the job we have been hired to do.
If you hire us to manage the SEO, we manage the SEO. We do not disappear into a black box, and we do not dump half the work back on your desk and call it collaboration. We lead the strategy, carry the work forward, and keep things moving.
You should expect us to care about the relationship, not just the retainer.
Even when clients leave, we want them to leave with a better understanding of SEO than when they arrived, and with a positive view of the work we did together.
That should not be rare in business, but sadly it still is.
And finally, you should expect us to be human.
We take the work seriously. We care about doing it well. We care about helping good businesses grow. But we are not interested in sounding like a corporate brochure or pretending every small change is the end of civilisation.
Calm usually works better.
